Welcome to DAY TWO of the Spring Fever Giveaway 2011!

IMAGE Balletband: Hands-free streching for dancers IMAGEOur giveaway today comes from Balletband.

Balletband is a heavy-duty latex resistive stretching band specifically designed for dancers offering a hands-free alternative to traditional stretching techniques.

Professional ballet dancer, Todd Fox created Balletband in 1998 when he witnessed a fellow professional dancer stretching in a similar fashion using a plain bicycle inner tube. The product initially sold under the name ‘Stretcherz’ but was officially changed to ‘Balletband’ in 2005. Natural rubber and latex compunds make up this heavy-duty stretching band, one of the most durable on the market to date.

The Giveaway

Dancer: Miami City Ballet Principal Dancer, Jennifer Kronenberg

Todd would like to give away one Balletband to THREE Dance Advantage readers.

Each Balletband retails for $14.95 USD. Instructions for use are sent with each product. Looping the band around one foot and the opposite shoulder, dancers can stretch and strengthen their extension in arabesque, à la seconde, or croisé. The band’s resistance also effectively works the legs and turnout in a seated straddle position.

  2. I could always use something to help me and my muscles be more flexible! What a great product! 🙂

  3. I definitely need a bigger arabesque! 🙂

  4. Kristi Coleman says:

Hi, I am a mom of a 12 year old who eats sleeps and drinks dance! She loves it so much and works so hard but it seems like she can’t get off that back row to save her life and it’s killing her self esteem! I have been on the internet all morning searching for different things she can do over the summer to help strenghthen her as well as improve all of her positions and steps and just anything! It breaks my heart when she says things like “Am I so bad they have to hide me on the back row”!!! Is she going to someday be a successful ballerina? Probably not but she still has several years left of classes and I want to help her all I can. i’m hoping this band would be a start for her. She takes ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. She’s on the second row in hip hop which seems to be her thing…3rd row of 4 in ballet and the 4th row in tap and jazz….breaks my heart! She’s been dancing since she was 4.

  5. I hope to use the band to help my students increase their extension in Arabesque.

  6. Can I say all of them? I’m pretty inflexible all-over so any stretch it improves will be appreciated! I’m having trouble with keeping my shoulders square in attitude and arabesque so hopefully the BalletBand could help here!
Thanks for doing another giveaway DA! you’ve brought back my freebie fever 🙂

  7. I am a dance teacher who has theraband in the studio. Up until this point we have primarily used it in conjunction with a physical therapist. I would love to be able to incorporate the bands into stretching as well.

  8. As an adult dancer, I can see any stretching tool as a potential aid. There are a lot of up and coming young dancers at our studio who’d benefit as well.

  9. I’m hoping to improve my arabesque penchee, which always looks like I’m doing one of those spin things ice skaters do rather than what it’s supposed to look like.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  10. I would love to use this balletband to help with my penchees!

  11. I’m answering for my 11-year old granddaughter. She would love to develop her Arabesque even more. I think it would help in her overall stretching as well.

  12. everything you can think of i want to do with this band! My daughter also has hurt herself twice and needs help rehabilitating … also might be fun for creative movement classes…. to see what shapes they can make with it, also to teach what the stretching concept is as opposed to a relaxed muscle…

i also tattled/tweeted that i want to win this too!

    I WANT IT!!!!! 🙂

  13. I would love to use the BalletBand to work my straddle stretch. That is definitely the most difficult one for me and this seems like a great way to get deeper in the stretch. Though I’d also love to work on my extension with it. Looks like a great tool!

  14. Stacy Augustine says:

Another whose daughters would like help with penchees!

  15. As a mom of a dancer and a studio owner this would be a great tool to have! My daughter is constantly stretching against our walls and leaving little foot marks and scuffs 🙂

  16. I would love to try the stretch for the ponche arabesque in my ballet classes, I think it would help them get a better feel of body placement, as well as their stretch.

  17. I would love this for stretching in arabesque! I tattled this giveaway on twitter!! Thanks for the chance to win this!

  18. I need it to help me with many stretches. My flexibility needs to increase. It would really help with the arabesque. I would love to use it for strengthening !!!

  19. jill rector says:

I think these bands are a great teaching tool to help show the kids how they can use them to improve their flexibility. I started some basic conditioning this year using regular exercise bands, and exercise balls to our class warm up to work on strength and conditioning. The kids really enjoy it.

  20. I love the freebies this week! This would definitely beinifit my daughter. Thanks DA!

  21. I can’t wait to check this item out. My arabesque needs improvement big time! I tattled on facabook!

  22. Definitely would use it to work my (and my student’s) arabesque positions – always need work!
This is a smart idea – the next generation of the theraband!

  23. Lindsay Chm says:

I would use the ballet band for myself and students to strengthen hamstrings. I have pulled mine in the past and it tends to be a common injury among dancers. Tying the band around a ballet barre and slowly extending the leg back can help strengthen the hamstrings. These ballet bands can be used for numerous stretching and strengthening exercises!

  24. Cathy Smith says:

I need better flexibility and these would be just what I need!

  25. my ballet band just ripped (! – and let me tell you, that hurts!), and I LOVE it for working on my arabesque and side splits.. So that would be perfect 😉

  26. Leslea Clark says:

Looks like we all have Spring and Freebie Fever!! I’m hoping to win one of the BalletBands!! I’m so excited that I tattled about the giveaway on twitter and Facebook!!

  27. Michelle Ballaro says:

WOW!!!!! I could certainly use this! Don’t know of many dancers or teachers who would NOT want a fantastic product like this. So excited to enter to win! Thanks, so much.

  28. Leslea Clark says:

…see, I was so excited I even forgot to answer the question!!! “Which stretch or pose do you most hope BalletBand will help you to improve?” I am hoping to improve my arabesque as well as teach my students how to use the band.

  29. I would love to introduce this product to my students to stretch/strengthen their arabesques. They often request ways to do so.

  30. I love to use dance bands in ballet class for strengthening overall, but my favorite use is to strengthen those gorgeous feet. We usually work 15-20 minutes twice a month during my classes from my beginners to my advanced students! They love them too. I will also pull them out during a jazz technique or lyrical class once in a while. It’s a great way to change things up! Students think they are getting a break from the normal “routine” when I bring these out! They actually end up working twice as hard because it is different and fun at the same time!
