Welcome to DAY ONE of the Spring Fever Giveaway 2011!

Kicking things off for us is abc for dance!
abc for dance creates teaching tools, curriculum and specialty manuals for dance educators and dancers.
In 1989 Anneliese Burns Wilson created the training materials and examination criteria for the Pan American Teachers of Dance Performing Arts Department, materials which were later refined into a leveled curriculum that was used in several dance studios. Ten years later, her company, The Step Shoppe Unlimited, was awarded a grant to create teacher training materials, curricula and workshops to prepare K-12 academic school teachers in New Jersey for the newly adopted Core Content Standards in Dance.
In 2000, Anneliese formed abc for dance to focus on the creation of studio and academic curricula and teaching materials. The materials are reviewed by leaders in the fields of dance, body mechanics, childhood development and education and are used in more than 1000 schools and studios worldwide. Each syllabus is created with the ever-evolving system and culture of dance schools in mind, meeting the current needs of the dance education field, while retaining the time proven qualities that are effective. Therefore, new products are continually introduced and current products are updated as new information and advances in education, movement science and dance medicine are discovered.
Read about Anneliese’s extensive training and 30 years of experience as a dance professional on the About Us page at www.abcfordance.com.

I would love to learn a way to make my students more ballet oriented.. It seems to be getting harder and harder to have kids see the importance! Thanks!
I tattled about this on twitter!
we didn’t require ballet as a pre-requesite to jazz for our recreational students this season and our teachers are paying the price. They are spending too much class time teaching the basics of dance and we are all disappointed in their lack of technique. A fun, interesting ballet program is a MUST for next season.
I wonder just how easily I can promote the idea that more than one Ballet class is a great think for the dancers. All of my students take at least one, but few take more than that. I know those who do get great benefit from it, but so many parents cannot get over the “cost” factor.
Yes, I would love ways to encourage my students to take more ballet classes. I see many promising dancers who love their jazz class, but don’t realize that more ballet classes would enhance their capabilities. Sadly, ballet always get the “uncool” label.
It is very impiortant for dance students to take ballet, but lots of them aren’t interested in ballet. It would be wonderful to have a way to get them interested in ballet.
I would love to learn more ideas to motivate my ballet students to take more classes. After 30 yrs. of teaching I have tried everything I can think of to encourage, entice, and educate my students as to the importance of ballet. It is all about the basics and this is where you learn it! I couldn’t be more explicit when talking about it to my students. Thank you!
Yes! We offered an Open Ballet class for the students we have who wanted an additional ballet class a week but didn’t want the additional costume & recital cost…it is off to a fair start but we would love some ideas to help really make it successful!!
What a great guide! Can’t wait to view it.
I would love to learn ways to encourage students to take more ballet – or even some ballet! There are a few that love ballet, but only take 1ce a week. Others love jazz and hip hop and are hesitant about ballet. Would love to learn creative fun ways to increase ballet enrollment.
I want my son to try ballet. Does anyone have any ideas I can use to spike his interest?
I am a new studio owner and I would definitely be interested in finding new ways to encourage students to come to more ballet classes. We are located in an area where most studios do not focus on ballet, so a lot of parents and students are surprised by the number of ballet classes we offer and encourage the dancers to take.
I would love this. I never feel fully confident in the way I start pointe students and pre-pointe is just so “boring” to them. I have the freebie fever in addition to spring fever.
I tattled about this on Facebook this morning.
I am always looking for new ways to have students enroll in Ballet and also stay in enrolled in ballet. I would be interested in also reading ways to have boys make the crossover from hip hop to ballet. Looking forward to reading about the new curriculum.
I would luv any ideas to get my kids to take more classes. It’s hard as it is to get them to come to the one class they take. I wish they truly understood the importance of ballet but they certainly don’t want to hear it from their ballet teacher. Their eyes glaze over as soon as I start that speech…lol!
YES!! YES!! YES!! (need I say more?) 😉
Would be great to help the students understand the importance of their technique and how all the basics come from ballet. Most kids just want to do hip hop cause they like the music and because it is so trendy today. It would be nice to help them realize they could be incredible hip hop dancers if they had ballet technique as a foundation. We require our company girls to take one or two ballet classes a week but many of them just go through the motions without absorbing the material. I always tell them to be patient they will start seeing the rewards if they are patient.
We would love to get ideas on how to promote more ballet classes per week. For our jr. and company kids, it’s not a problem, they love it, and already take multiple ballet classes, but for our more recreational students, all they want is jazz and hip hop- but a strong ballet background will assist them with these classes, they just don’t understand. So ideas woudl be very helpful! 🙂
I’ve got freebie fever already!! 🙂
Of course I would!! We have some policies in place to require the kids to take a set # of ballet classes each week, but I still wish they would do more. It truly is the backbone of their dance education!
Ballet is the basis of all dancers do. I’d love to encourage them to take more than the required amount of l
classes per week!
I would love to learn ways to enourage my sutdents to increase ballet in their life! I hope I win!!!!!
What a wonderful publication ABC for Dance has created! As a studio owner in a small town, I would love to find ways to get kids to take more classes. Right now there are all the usual excuses…Suzy has skating on Mondays, Violin on Tuesdays, Gymnastics on Wednesdays…you get the idea! Then there’s that freebie fever that’s going around too!
What a great prize
Ballet Is the basics and groundwork for all forms of dance. Getting students to increase their class time in Ballet is a great way to create strong dancers.I would love tips on how to increase my students class time in Ballet.
I would definitely love to encourage my students to take more ballet classes. I am intrigued and as always want to learn more.
Most certainly, I would love to learn ways to better encourage my students to take more ballet classes! Thank you for the give-away offer!
I would love to learn ways to better encourage my students to take more ballet classes! Thank you for the give-away!
I would love to learn the right words to say to encourage students to take ballet classes. The complaints usually get from parents who don’t understand the importance of a good foundation is that ballet is to slow. It would be great to have a response to that statement. Those students of ours who take jazz and have not taken ballet classes along with their jazz classes fall behind the other students in what they can achieve at a higher level. Many times they will then sign up for a ballet class. I own many of ABC for Dance’s products, they are very imformative and fabulous.
I would love ideas on how to increase my students’ weekly ballet classes! Right now they take two per week and performing children are required to take both, but few of them appreciate just how much the classes keep them competitive and how many more they probably should be taking.
BalletScoop caught freebie fever!
I’ve also tattled about this giveaway on Facebook (as Juliette Clark)!
Thanks, Nichelle!
With hip hop and jazz classes as popular as ever, and a lot of times due to contemporary music, it is often hard to get young dancers excited about ballet. I am always looking for new ways to communicate to students and parents how much a ballet foundation helps with technique, lines and flexibility in all forms of dance. They see the discipline as boring, where I find the familiarity and structure as a positive and beautiful thing! I try to find as many ways as possible to get them excited about ballet.
Yes! I would love to know what to say to encourage my students to take at least one more class in the week. Thank you for the give-away!
Definitely! I’m always looking for pre point tips/advice/help!
