Special mention goes to the site flying solo in the Business Blog category: Kiner Enterprises Inc. You’ll find owner, Ashani Mfuko, blogging about social media marketing and advice for dance studio owners and professionals. She’s behind the #letstalkdance Twitter chats and The Kiner Hour, a weekly live show, streaming online.

Since the holidays are such a busy time, I’ve decided to give readers a bit more time than initially planned to cast their votes…

The polls will close at NOON on January 4, 2012.

Thank you for voting!

Dance Advantage would like to thank all of the participants and YOU the readers!

We are thrilled to once again be hosting this event. We hope you found some new blogs to follow in the process.

Nichelle (admin)
Nichelle Strzepek began Dance Advantage in 2008, equipped with a passion for movement education and an intuitive sense that a blog could bring dancers together. She has written about 100,000 words on dance and dance training each year of its existence. Nichelle holds a BA in dance and is an instructor with more than 17 years experience. She covers dance performance in the Houston area as a freelance writer and balances daily life as a mom to two young children. In June 2012, Nichelle presented the whats, hows, and whys of blogging on a panel at the annual conference for Dance/USA, the national service organization for professional dance, to better equip artists and companies for engaging their audience and new readers through online communications and content.

  1. Dance Advantage is my favorite.
    Melinda Marchiano’s story is fantastic!
See more inspiring dance stories about the impact of the power of dance on children with cancer and special needs on http://www.dreasdream.org/Dreas-Dream-blog/

  2. Who else noticed:

32 blogs entered the contest…32 DANCE blogs…32 fouettes…32 is a pretty significant number in ballet…

I am definitely LOVING the cool coincidence!!

Thank Nichelle, for hosting this absolutely awesome contest! I am honored to be mentioned, let alone one of the Top 20!

  3. Dance Reader says:

I love this contest because it introduces me to so many wonderful new blogs and artists. I checked out a lot of the “contestants,” not just my “favorites” that I know and love, and found many new blogs, individuals and artists to follow on twitter and even to vote for! Great job raising awareness!

  4. Thanks for the special mention/shout-out Nichelle! I don’t mind flying solo!! lol I love this contest because it helps all of us recognize the wonderful work that so many dancers are doing through blogs! I love meeting new people, and discovering new blogs to read and share! Thanks for creating this wonderful contest!

  5. Renee Renouf Hall says:

I find this “contest” quite intriguing and am amazed at the number of individuals passionate enough about dance to share their thoughts on the Web.
I started out with typewriter or pen, an envelope and postage stamps, tardily
adding the FAX machine when it became common. What a technological leap!

You are to be commended to provide the forum by which the sites are identified.
The fact you produce it with raising two children is quite awesome, and speaks
a lot to your organizational skills.

Am I correct in assuming that by “dance blogs” you are not limiting entries to
    blogs focusing primarily on ballet?

Now that I know about you I will check in from time to time.

Incidentally, you now have at Houston Ballet one of the more memorable
recent dancers from the San Francisco area. Tina Kay Bodhnstedt danced
with Diablo for over a decade and started choreographing, a simply unforgettable, intelligent ballerina.

    • Hello, Renee. Thanks for visiting! I am amazed and encouraged every day by that very thing.

Entries are definitely not limited to ballet, though I think it’s fair to say that there are probably more bloggers writing about ballet than other concert dance forms. The contest, however, isn’t even limited to concert forms but, because Dance Advantage focuses in that direction, and because the contest is still new, we have yet to draw many contestants beyond that corner of the dance world.

Please do check in when you can. To keep tabs you can subscribe via RSS or to our email newsletter. Or find Dance Advantage on Facebook or Twitter.

Thanks again for stopping by and commenting!

  6. Hi Michelle! Is it too late to vote? Did you mean 12 EST?

  7. Damn, we were off to Disneyland for a couple of days and I missed the deadline :-(
    Sorry !
